Fire Damages Vacant Building In Trenton

A building fire at 907 Main Street in Trenton summoned Trenton Firefighters at about 2:13 am Tuesday.  The fire crew arrived at the vacant building to find heavy smoke from the front of the building, but no fire.

Trenton Police evacuated an adjacent apartment building as the fire crew checked the building, finding smoke throughout the building and fire in the basement.  The fire was knocked down, but had extended to the 1st floor before it was extinguished.

The Trenton Fire Department reported major fire damage to the basement and 1st floor, with smoke and heat damage throughout the building.  Adjacent buildings also had smoke damage.

The fire crews were on the scene for 7 ½ hours.  Trenton was assisted by Grundy County Rural, Laredo, Jamesport, and Chillicothe fire departments.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
