Electric Generator Rotor Repairs Approved

Repairs to a generator unit at the CMU Power Plant at a cost of nearly $765,000 were approved by the Chillicothe City Council.  CMU General Manager Matt Hopper says this is a generator unit that has been out of service since 2019.

The generator failed, but the twin jet engines are still good.

Hopper says the cost of repairs has been prohibitive until now.

It is now economically feasible.

CMU received a bid to rebuild a part of the generator called the rotor.  The work would be done by the original manufacturer at a fraction of the replacement cost.   There will be other work that is needed to complete the repairs and get the unit operating again.

Hopper says the cost to replace just the generator now is estimated to be near six million dollars.
