The Chillicothe Hornets took on the Marshall Owls in week 1 of the High School football season.
The Hornets defense started out strong forcing a pair of 3 and outs. Chillicothe got on the board in the first quarter with a 3 yard rushing touchdown from Henry Hurtgen to go ahead 7-0.
From there, turnover became a major problem for the Hornets. A pair of lost fumbles including a muffed punt within the final minute of the half set Marshall up to tie the game with a 17 yard scramble from Quarterback Chase Thompson.
To start the 3rd quarter Chillicothe scored on their first drive with a 15 yard TD from Henry Hurtgen. Marshall answered with an 18 play 80 yard drive to tie the game up at 13 a piece. Each of the next two Chillicothe offensive plays were costly fumbles that Marshall recovered. The Owls used the momentum to add on a pair of touchdowns, going ahead 25-13. Chillicothe scored a touchdown on the final play of the game but could not overcome the 4 turnovers.
Marshall picks up the 25-19 victory at home. Chillicothe will play in their home opener next Friday against Kirksville.
