The Chillicothe boys soccer team hosted the Lafayette Fighting Irish for the teams first home match on Tuesday night. The guys came out with a ton of energy and worked the ball together very well. This was particularly important because the team was without multiple players including 2 captains.
Chillicothe came out early with possession and created many opportunities. Midway through the 1st half Josh Ojeaga turned the corner and beat his defender into the penalty box where Lafayette tripped him from behind. Ojeaga converted the penalty kick for the 1-0 lead. The lead would hold thru halftime as the Hornets applied pressure but were unable to convert to more goals.
The Hornets came out aggressive in the second half with more scoring chances. But the theme remained the same. The back line of Jace Collins, Hyun Lee, Ryan Schuler and Dustin Citron along with Brennen
Fitzpatrick held the Irish attack at bay. In goal, Jesse Hughes was solid and put away the few chances that came at him.
With about 10 min remaining Mason Walter capitalized with his first career varsity goal by lacing a shot in the upper left corner to seal the game 2-0.
The win puts the Hornets at 2-1 overall (2-0 MEC).
The Hornets next game is Saturday at home vs Mexico at 3 pm with a JV match to follow.
