The Chillicothe Hornets football team was at Cameron Friday night which was Homecoming for the Dragons.
On the opening drive, Cameron set the tone converting a 3rd and 11, then on a 4th and 10 River Meadows ran in a 20 yard score to put the home team ahead 7-0.
Early in the 2nd quarter after a pair of penalties set Chillicothe up across midfield, Henry Hurtgen took a handoff and broke out for a 38 yard score to tie the game at 7-7. On Cameron’s ensuing drive, the Dragons faced a 4th down on their own side of the field. A gutsy misdirection saw Talan Eddins emerge down the right side line untouched for a 56 yard run to put Cameron back in front. Then in the final minute of the half Chillicothe was stuffed on a 4th and 1 inside the 10. Cameron held a 14-7 edge at the break.
Chillicothe’s offense struggled to move the ball in the 2nd half. After a pair of punts, Cameron seized control with a touchdown run by Chase Bell. Cameron was ahead 21-7 entering the 4th quarter when the Dragons came up with another 4th down stop. Cameron added a final score with Bell’s 2nd touchdown of the 2nd half and closed out Chillicothe 28-7.
The Hornets fall to 0-4, 0-2 in the MEC. Chillicothe will host Southeast Kansas City on Friday. Cameron is now 2-2 and 1-0 in conference.
