After three hours of rain delays on Saturday morning, the Lady Hornets’ varsity tennis squad was able to host its annual home tournament. This year, the format was a round robin team triangular, where all three teams played doubles, then singles, then doubles again, and finally singles in two full team duals. Coach Chambers invites very high-level MSHSAA Class 1 schools from farther away in Missouri to visit for the weekend to help push her squad into harder matches before the last two-week push in the MEC in the coming weeks. St. Michael the Archangel, who was just bumped up to Class 2, and Logan-Rogersville both made the long trek up to Chillicothe for the tournament. While the team went 0-2 on the day overall and finished third, Coach Chambers and Coach Pyrtle watched their athletes play beautiful, highly competitive tennis all day. After waiting so long through the rain delays, it was discouraging to end the day without many wins, but the team feels more confident in being prepared to face three district and conference opponents in the next five days. The team faces both Benton and LeBlond in key MEC match-ups on Monday and then Trenton in a key district match-up on Thursday at home. The Lady Hornets hope the community will come out to support the team at this next home meet.
