The Chillicothe Lady Hornets volleyball team went on the road to Cameron Thursday night in an MEC showdown.
Behind their home fans, Cameron opened the game with energy and led Chillicothe midway through the opening set. Coach Lanie Beetsma took a timeout to reset the Lady Hornets and Chillicothe hit their stride. The Lady Hornets scored five consecutive points and opened up a lead behind strong hitting from Lyla Beetsma and Emerson Staton. Chillicothe held off Cameron to win the first set 25-20.
The 2nd set was all Chillicothe, strong serving from Ava Leamer allowed the Lady Hornets to open up an early edge. Chillicothe faced little resistance in route to a 25-10 win. The 3rd set began with the Lady Hornets applying pressure, opening up a seven point advantage. Cameron showed heart, roaring back to cut the match to a 20-18 margin, but the Lady Hornets slammed the door. Scoring the final five points of the match behind strong serving from Kami Snyder.
Chillicothe claimed the straight set victory, 25-20, 25-10, 25-18 to improve to 18-4 on the season. The Lady Hornets will host Trenton in their next contest on Monday.
