A field fire Saturday afternoon summoned the Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District. The call came in at about 2:30 pm for a fire at the end of NW Herron Lane. The fire crew arrived to find bean stubble burning and moving towards standing corn. There was also some standing beans burning.
Two brush trucks put out the fire before it reached the corn.
The fire was caused by overheated bean dust from the combine, causing the bean stubble to catch fire.
About 10 acres had burned before the fire was put out. The fire crew was on the scene for about an hour.
