Lady Hornets Volleyball Sweeps Maryville, One Win Away from Conference Title

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets volleyball team earned a hard-fought 3-0 victory over Maryville on Thursday night, winning by scores of 26-24, 25-20, 25-22. The match featured long rallies and high intensity throughout, as the Spoofhounds proved to be a tough, scrappy opponent that made every point a battle.

Lyla Beetsma led the way for the Lady Hornets with 14 kills and 24 digs, while Emerson Staton added 12 kills, 20 digs, 2 blocks, and 2 service aces. Ava Leamer contributed 3 kills and 12 digs, and Carman Woodworth tallied 27 assists, 10 digs, and 2 aces. Clara Fisher chipped in 8 digs and 2 aces, and Kami Snyder added 2 blocks at the net.

Maryville’s relentless defense pushed the Hornets to compete at a high level throughout the night, but Chillicothe maintained composure and consistency to complete the sweep.

The Junior Varsity team fell 0-2 (11-25, 15-25), and the C Team dropped a close 1-2 match (25-23, 17-25, 8-15).

With the win, the Lady Hornets remain just one victory away from clinching the MEC Conference Championship for the first time in program history. Chillicothe will face Benton on Monday, in a rescheduled conference matchup with the title on the line before opening district play Tuesday against Cameron.
