The Chillicothe Hornets football team was on the road at Odessa (6-1) Friday night.
Odessa raced out to an early lead with a Cole Westerhold touchdown run to make it 6-0 after the Hornets turned the ball over on downs following the opening kickoff. Later, in the 2nd quarter Odessa took advantage of an interception, and Westerhold caught a touchdown pass from Quarterback Michael Scott to capitalize. Trailing 12-0, Chillicothe was tackled in the end zone for a safety in a failed punt attempt, then Westerhold added one more late TD to make it 21-0 at the half.
Both defense made timely stops in a scoreless 3rd quarter. Then Henry Hurtgen ripped off a 51 yard run setting up a Drake Swift touchdown from a yard out. Chillicothe successfully recovered an onside kick but the Hornets were unable to get any closer, falling 21-7.
Chillicothe drops to 2-6 and will play at home in the regular season finale against Benton Friday.
