Two area programs that offer meals for seniors are affected by funding shortages due to the federal government shutdown.
The Grand River Multi-purpose Center has announced that they are making schedule changes for the congregate dining. Beginning November 1st, meals will be served on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Their posting says there will be no changes to their meals, but the suggested contribution has increased to $5 per meal.
For the home-delivered program, meals will be delivered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with the Tuesday meal delivered on Monday and the Thursday meal on Wednesday.
At this time, they will not offer qa Saturday meal or an “Extra” meal in the delivered meal program.
They do have an “Adopt a senior” program at the suggested rate of $5/meal. And any donations will be appreciated.
The Active Aging Resource Center in Gallatin announced that its funding is reduced by 75%, with no funds received since the shutdown in mid-September. They announced that they will continue to operate the Meals on Wheels, Dine-In, and Carry-Out programs, but some adjustments will be made, including menu modifications, to reduce costs.
