The Hornets opened the Savannah Tournament on Tuesday against MEC rival Maryville. Chillicothe was looking to get revenge from last season’s road loss to the Spoofhounds, but the young Hornets had only 7 points from players returning to play in this contest, while Maryville had all but 7 off their points from returning players.
Freshman point guard Turner Jackson had a breakout night for Chillicothe, scoring 14 and kept Chillicothe within striking distance throughout the night. The Hornets trailed by 9 at halftime, but a big 2nd half from standout Jaishon White put the pressure on Maryville in the 4th quarter.
Chillicothe trimmed a 14 point deficit to 5 late in the game, before Maryville used an 11-0 run to put the Hornets away. The Spoofhounds, behind Jackson Dregde’s 20 point performance pulled away to win 60-43.
Chillicothe will face South Harrison on Thursday in their 2nd game of the Savannah Tournament. The Hornets drop to 0-2 on the season.
