The construction of a 5,000-foot concrete runway at the Chillicothe Municipal Airport has been a goal of the community for some time, and with the new Chillicothe Industrial Park being developed, the need is greater than ever. Airport Manager Toby Calivere says there is a process to follow as they seek approval from MoDOT and the FAA.
Applying for grants, showing a need and research is part of the process.
Calivere says the city has been working to be prepared when approved by purchasing the land required.
He says they are receiving support from pilots.

The airport engineers are working on the plans for the runway, and while there is no specific timeline, Calivere hopes to see the extended runway in the next 10 years.
