Handgun Found At PAC Following Second Grade Program

A weapon was found at the Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center following Tuesday’s second-grade program. The Chillicothe R-II School Superintendent, Dr Dan Wiebers, says custodians were cleaning up when they found a purse that had been left in the PAC.  When they checked for identification, they found a handgun inside the purse.

A School Resource Officer was contacted and arrived at the scene and safely secured the weapon.

The owner of the weapon was identified, and law enforcement is currently taking appropriate actions in accordance with district policy and state law.

Dr Wiebers says, Firearms are not permitted on Chillicothe R-II School District property, in district buildings, or at district-sponsored events.

Wiebers says that while the situation was resolved without incident, it serves as a vital reminder of our schools responsibility toward campus safety.
