The Chillicothe Hornets closed out an outstanding season with multiple medal-winning performances at the Class 3 MSHSAA State Track and Field Championships, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the boys 4×800 relay and several podium finishes against the best competition in Missouri.
The Hornets’ boys 4×800 relay team of Jace Collins, Mason Walter, Landen Longo, and Luke Thompson earned All-State honors with a fourth-place finish in 8:07.
Senior standout Brennen FitzPatrick delivered a pair of All-State performances in the boys division. FitzPatrick placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.17 seconds and also earned sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.26 meters.
The boys 4×400 relay team also reached the podium, finishing eighth overall in 3:37. The relay team featured Luke Thompson, Josh Ojeaga, Brennen FitzPatrick, and Landen Longo.
Thompson added another strong performance individually, placing 10th in the boys 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.
In the field events, junior thrower Jayden Martin earned All-State honors in the shot put with a sixth-place throw of 15.7 meters. Martin also competed in the javelin, placing 10th with a throw of 45.97 meters.
The Lady Hornets also had an impressive showing at the state meet. Chillicothe’s girls 4×800 relay team of Lexy Smith, Isabel Nagel, Hope Donoho, and Lydia Bonderer placed fifth overall in 9:55, earning All-State recognition.
Individually, Hope Donoho added a seventh-place finish in the girls 800 meters with a time of 2:23, while Mya Oliver narrowly missed the podium in the triple jump, finishing 10th with a leap of 10.77 meters.
Competing against the top Class 3 athletes from across Missouri, the Hornets and Lady Hornets capped the season with multiple medals, relay success, and a strong collection of All-State performances.
