Mudcats Hold On To Beat The Natty’s on Wednesday Evening

The Chillicothe Mudcats took down the North Missouri Natty’s in a close ball game on Wednesday evening from Shaffer Park.

The Mudcats got the scoring started early, they jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. It was Jevon Raboy hitting a sacrifice fly to score Cole Adair which made it 1-0 Mudcats. The next batter, Jordi Ventura, mashed a solo home run over the left-center field wall to make it 2-0 Chillicothe, that was the first homer hit at Shaffer Park this season. Later in the inning, Max Heintz doubled into the left-center field gap to score Jackson Neilitz to make it 3-0, and the inning was capped off by an Alejandro Somaza base hit to score Heintz and make it 4-0.

The Natty’s got on the board in the top of the fourth, Devin Norwood scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1. Later on, Enrique T-Reyes grounded an RBI single into left field to score Isaac Fanoga to make it 4-2.

In the top of the fifth, the Natty’s tallied another run. Devin Norwood hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Frankie Brazil and cut the Mudcat lead to 4-3 after the fifth inning.

There was no score in the sixth, seventh, and top of the eighth innings.

The Mudcats tacked on two big insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Cole Adair blistered an RBI base hit into right field to score Aiden Baerenklau to make it 5-3, and Jevon Raboy once more hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Taydem Hashimoto to give the Mudcats a three run lead heading to the ninth, 6-3.

The Natty’s didn’t go down without a fight in the ninth. They got two quick outs, but Frankie Brazil tripled to left, and scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-4. Grady Hruska then doubled into left-center to bring the tying run to the plate in Devin Norwood. Mudcat pitcher Logan Arbuckle ended up getting a groundout from Norwood to end the ball game and the Mudcats went on to win the game by a final score of 6-4.

The Mudcats improve to 4-14 on the season, and win at home for the first time this season.

Chillicothe is back at Shaffer Park on Thursday evening against the Natty’s once again, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
