The Chillicothe Hornets battled the Kirksville Tigers Thursday night at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium, with Kirksville earning a 3-0 victory.
Chillicothe came out with strong energy and applied pressure early against the talented Tigers. Both teams created chances during the opening portion of the first half before Kirksville converted a penalty kick following a foul call against the Hornets to take a 1-0 lead. The Tigers added another goal before halftime to take a 2-0 advantage into the break.
The teams continued to battle in the second half, with Kirksville adding another goal on a penalty kick to make it 3-0. The Hornets continued to fight and created late opportunities, but chances from Josh Ojeaga, Coy Jones and Mason Walter were turned away.
The JV match ended in a 0-0 draw, with solid goalkeeping from Ojeaga and Walter.
The loss moves Chillicothe to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in MEC play. The Hornets return to action Tuesday at Benton, with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
