The Chillicothe Hornets battled through a steady rain Wednesday night at Maryville’s Hound Pound, rallying for a 2-1 victory over the Spoofhounds in a rescheduled MEC matchup.
Maryville struck first about five minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead. Chillicothe settled in despite the wet conditions and began to take control of the match.
Midway through the first half, the Hornets found the equalizer on a corner kick from Coy Jones. The ball found the foot of Aaron Snider, who put it into the net to make it 1-1. The score remained tied heading into halftime.
The second half continued as a back-and-forth battle as the rain grew heavier. Chillicothe continued applying pressure, and Josh Ojeaga gave the Hornets the lead when he received a through ball from Mason Walter and found the back of the net to make it 2-1.
The Hornet defense held off several late Maryville attempts to preserve the victory.
The JV match ended in a 0-0 draw, with Adrian Trantham and Hyun Lee combining for the shutout effort in goal.
The win moves Chillicothe to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in MEC play. The Hornets return to action Thursday at St. Paul in Concordia for a non-conference match.
