The Chillicothe Hornets boys soccer team closed out its 2026 home schedule in winning fashion Tuesday night at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium, defeating the Sacred Heart Gremlins 3-1 on Senior Night.
Sacred Heart struck first, scoring midway through the opening half to take a 1-0 lead. The Hornets settled in and began to gain control of the match, eventually finding the equalizer before halftime. Junior Mason Walter delivered a through ball to junior Hyun Lee, who finished the opportunity to equalize at 1-1. The teams carried that score into the break.
Chillicothe took control in the second half, maintaining possession and applying consistent pressure to the Gremlin defense.
Early in the half, senior Brennen Fitzpatrick collected a loose ball and carried it up the right side before sending a well-placed pass into the center of the field. Walter raced toward goal and finished the opportunity to give the Hornets a 2-1 advantage.
Walter continued to create chances as Chillicothe pressed forward. Working around the right side of the Sacred Heart defense, he delivered a lofted ball into the middle of the box, where junior Josh Ojeaga headed it over the goalkeeper and into the net. The goal extended the Hornets’ lead to 3-1, which held through the final whistle.
The victory provided a fitting finish to the Hornets’ home schedule and an opportunity to recognize six seniors for their contributions to the program. Ryan Schuler, Lake Englert, Brennen Fitzpatrick, Urijah Hunt, Coy Jones and Landon Longo were honored on Senior Night.
The Hornets will continue their season on the road Thursday at Kirksville. Chillicothe improves to 7-6 overall and 2-3 in Midland Empire Conference play.
No junior varsity match was played.
