Former State Representative Dale Whiteside passed away July 4th, at the family home. Whiteside was a farmer in Livingston County who served in the state legislature for 10 years.
He was first elected to the House in a special election in 1987, Rep. Whiteside was elected to his fourth consecutive two-year term in 1994. During his time in office, Whiteside served on several House committees: Agriculture; Appropriations–Education and Public Safety; Correctional and State Institutions; and Public Health and Safety. He was also a member of the Joint Committee on Correctional Institutions and Problems.
Whiteside served as the ranking minority member on the Agriculture Committee and on the Correctional and State Institutions Committee. His significant legislative accomplishments include passing bills on the right to farm and livestock research and production facilities protection.
In addition to his legislative duties, Rep. Whiteside, had been a weather instructor and forecaster in the US Air Force and was a hog, beef and grain farmer.
Whiteside received numerous awards while in office, including Most Knowledgeable Freshman Legislator in Agriculture 1988; State Friend of Extension 1990; and University of Missouri College of Agriculture’s Citation of Merit 1991.
A 1948 graduate of Chillicothe High School, Whiteside attended Central Methodist College and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Missouri.
