Both Chillicothe Varsity Basketball teams will battle for a tournament title tonight thanks to semifinal wins in the Lawson Tournament.
The Lady Hornets overcame a sluggish first quarter to take and keep the lead in the second quarter with a 54 to 34 win over the host Lawson team. Jessica Reeter was hot from the outside, hitting six treys on the night. Chillicothe will face North Platte for the championship tonight (Friday) at 6:15pm.
The Chillicothe Boys team advanced to the title game with a 46-39 win over West Platte. Junior Griff Bonderer didn’t let some issues with his back slow down his game, hitting 23 points including 14 in the fourth quarter.
Coach Tim Cool said Bonderer told him he was ready to play.
James Mathew had 10, Wyatt Brandsgaard with 8, Jackson Trout with 4, Landon Winder with 3 and playing time for Chace Corbin and Langston Johnson. Chillicothe faces Richmond for the championship tonight (Friday) at 7:30. Richmond beat Gallatin 58 to 44 in the other semifinal.
The championship games were moved to Friday due to the winter weather forecast.
