The Chillicothe Lady Hornets golf team is headed to the MSHSAA State Championship tournament for the first time since 2005. The Lady Hornets shot a team 382 to beat Second Place Kirksville by 11 strokes to win the Sectional title.
Hallie Jones led the Lady Hornets with a 93, good for 3rd place individually. Riley Brobst shot a 95 to tie for 7th place. Hannah Haakonstad and Maddi Lamp both had a 102 to tie for 17th place, and Gaby Hapes shot a 107 for 27th place.
Penney High of Hamilton’s Sam Cornelius was the individual medalist shooting a 7 over par on the Heritage Hills Course in Moberly. A Kirksville golfer was second with a 15-over par.
Other area golfers qualifying as individuals for the State Tournament include Werthen Gass of Trenton and Ally Jo Johnson of Gallatin tied for 4th, Laken Sattman of Brookfield tied for 9th, and Demi Downey of Brookfield tied for 17th.
Other area golfers competing but not making the cut for the State Tournament included Meredith Oesch of Southwest Livingston with a 109 for 31st place, Jacklyn Maize of Gallatin in 34th place, Emma Sheerman a 112 and Katelyn Cupp a 113 both of Marceline, Maci Henson of Trenton a 116, Renee Sinclair of Marceline a 117.
Class 1 State Golf Championships are October 15th and 16th at Mozingo Golf Course in Maryville.
