A difficult sixth inning was the difference in an 8-4 Chillicothe softball loss to Kirksville in the district championship game.
Kirksville scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning, but Chillicothe fought back to tie the game in the top of the third. The Lady Hornets took the lead in the top of the sixth with an RBI single from Kiley Kirkpatrick.
In the bottom of the sixth, Kirksville made the most of Chillicothe’s struggles. Kirksville started off with back to back singles, then loaded the bases when a batter was hit by a pitch.
Back to Back walks scored two for Kirksville followed by a two rbi ground ball to make the score 7-4. The final run for Kirksville came on a Chillicothe error.
In the top of the seventh, Chillicothe went three up, three down to end the game.
Chillicothe had four runs off seven hits while Kirksville had 7 runs, four earned, off seven hits.
Kirksville will face the winner of Saturday’s Smithville vs Savannah District 16 final in Class 3.
