Hornets Lose First Conference Game At Maryville

The Chillicothe Hornets football team travelled to Maryville Friday night for the first Midland Empire Conference game of the season for both teams. The Hornets and the Spoofhounds each entered the game with one win and one loss.

Maryville received the opening kickoff and went on a sustained drive for a touchdown. Running back Gavin Mcatee scored for the Spoofhounds from three yards out. The rest of the first quarter was highlighted by both defenses, Chillicothe forced a Maryville turnover on downs and then a 3 and out on consecutive possessions but Maryville’s defense also came to play as Chillicothe failed to move the chains in the quarter.

In the 2nd quarter Coach Webb’s Spoofhounds broke through again with a score to go up 14-0. The Hornets responded with their most promising drive, as Cooper Robinson completed a 34 yard pass to Logan Murrell but later in the series Robinson was pick off by Kole Zarbano to prevent Chillicothe from getting on the board. Maryville turned the takeaway into points scoring once more before half to go up 21-0.

The 3rd quarter began with Maryville stopping Chillicothe on a 3 and out punt and then adding another touchdown less than 3 minutes into the period. The Spoofhounds would tack on one more touchdown in each the 3rd and the 4th quarter to win 42-0.

The Chillicothe Hornets fall to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in the MEC and host Cameron on Homecoming next Friday night.
