Richard Donald “Don” Anderson

Richard Donald “Don” Anderson, a devoted husband, loving father, stepfather, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025, in Jefferson City, MO surrounded by those who loved him. He was 83 years old.

Born at home on August 25th, 1941, in Davies County, MO to Richard and Mary Anderson.  Don lived a life defined by kindness, integrity, and a quiet strength. He was always willing to lend a hand or share a warm smile—and often a funny story or a “dad joke.”

Don was dedicated to his career in public service, working for the Employment Security Office for the State of Missouri. Through many years of hard work and dedication, he rose through the ranks, ultimately retiring as the Chief of Contributions.  His commitment to his work reflected his deep sense of responsibility and care for the people of Missouri.

On August 15th, 1987, Don married his friend and soulmate, Elaine.  Together, they built a life centered on joy and love.  After his retirement, Don and Elaine enjoyed 5 years on Dauphin Island, Alabama where they also worked at the research lab.  After surviving a few hurricanes, they moved back to Missouri to be closer to their family.

Don often found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed walking, reading, solving sudoku puzzles, telling stories, watching sunrises and sunsets, and rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs.  He had a passion for growing roses and took pride in tending to his rose bushes.  He also enjoyed a good bargain and ice cream of any flavor, anytime.

Don enjoyed being with his large and blended family.  He was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather, always offering his unconditional love and support.

Along with his wife, Elaine, he leaves behind his beloved children: Angela Sherman and her husband, Mike, of Jefferson City, MO; David and his wife, Patty, of Surprise, AZ; and Brent and his wife, Carla, of Irons, MI.  Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Marilyn Stephens, and her husband, Paul, of Chillicothe, MO; his stepchildren: Beth, Brian, Burke, Becky, and Blake; and several grandchildren and great-grand grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda; stepson, Branden; and his grandson, Andrew.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held at Trimble Funeral Homes, 3210 N. 10 Mile Dr., Jefferson City, MO, on Wednesday, March 26th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the life of a man who meant so much to so many.

Don’s kindness, laughter, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of warmth, humor, and strength will never fade.  Don’s wish was to have his ashes spread on Dauphin Island with his beloved wife.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
