Hornets Rally To Claim Crucial Conference Win

The Chillicothe Hornets baseball team was at Maryville on Tuesday in a meeting between the two top teams in the MEC standings. Both teams entered the contest 3-1 in conference play.

In the first inning Koby Wagers came through with an RBI to score the first run of the game and Chillicothe took a 2-0 lead. The score remained the same until the bottom of the 4th when Maryville put three on the board to go ahead. The Hornets response was immediate, scoring five in the 5th, highlighted by a Howie Donoho double that brought in two runs.

The Hornets added two more in the 6th and Maryville crossed home plate once more for a 9-4 victory for Chillicothe. Noah Rinehart got the win on the mound pitching all seven innings, allowing just five hits and striking out six batters.

The road win moves Chillicothe into sole place of the top of the MEC standings with two conference games left next week. The Hornets are now 15-8 overall and host Trenton Wednesday.
