On Monday, officers began an investigation into sexual misconduct in the 1200 block of Fair Street. After an investigation, on Wednesday officers contacted the suspect and later arrested a 55-year-old Carrollton man for multiple offenses. Officers also seized an electronic device and applied for and were granted a Livingston County Search Warrant for the electronic device. The man was transported to the Caldwell County Detention Center and later served with a Livingston County Warrant. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
Fifty-five-year-old Jay Dee Shirley of Carrollton was booked into the Caldwell County Detention Center on charges of 2 counts of alleged sexual contact with a student. He is held with no bond allowed.
According to the Probable Cause statement, Shirley was employed by Grand River Technical School as a Welding Instructor at the time of the alleged offenses.
