Lady Hornets Soccer Lose Heartbreaker to Benton in 2 OT

The Lady Hornets soccer team began their season over the weekend hosting the Chillicothe Tournament.

The Lady Hornets took on Lone Jack on Friday night. The first varsity soccer match for the majority of the team. The Lady Hornets lost 6-1 but came away with some valuable experience. The lone goal was scored by Sophomore Sophie Hurtgen with the assist from Junior Lydia Gabrielson.

In the morning match on Saturday it was Chillicothe vs Marshall. In a heated contest, the Lady Owls defeated the Lady Hornets 6-3. Goals for Chillicothe were 2 by Sophie Hurtgen and 1 from Freshman Ashlynn Daugherty.  Junior Hayden Hansen assisted on 2 of the goals.

For the finale on Saturday, the Lady Hornets took on a talented Kirksville squad.   The Lady Tigers prevailed 9-1 with Sophie Hurtgen scoring on another assist by Hayden Hansen.

While the results may not be what the Lady Hornets were looking for what they gained was more important – experience and doing it all as a team.
