In the busy harvest season, the importance of farm safety should not be forgotten. Livingston County Farm Service Agency Executive Director Raysha Tate says everyday equipment can become very dangerous very quickly. Power Take-Off driven equipment can cause serious injuries very quickly.
Reaction time is not as fast as the PTO.
Loose hair or clothing can easily get caught in the shaft that is turning at high speeds, resulting in what could be life-changing injuries.
Another area that is often forgotten is power lines. Producers should always look up when entering a field or even a farmyard.
Be aware of the power lines.
If you have new equipment, know the height and clearances of the machines and of wires and overpasses on your route to and from the fields.
