A couple from rural Chillicothe were honored at the recent Missouri Prairie Foundation Awards event. Protecting and promoting Missouri’s remaining prairies requires dedication and commitment from many people. David Young, Missouri Prairie Foundation President, says their award program recognizes individuals who have made or are making a positive difference in the conservation of the region’s prairie legacy.
The Clair M. Kucera Prairie Landowner of the Year Award is presented to Doug and Barbara Doughty, recognizing them as individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the cause of prairie through ownership or stewardship.
Portions of the Doughtys’ 1,200-acre farm have been in the Doughty family for 185 years. In 2024, they hosted an MPF Prairie Strips Field Day and are hosting a similar event with the Missouri Rural Crisis Center on August 22nd.
