Purchase Of Nearly $2.5m Electric Transformer Approved

The purchase of an electric transformer for Chillicothe Municipal Utilities was approved by the City Council on Monday.  CMU General Manager Matt Hopper says this will replace an existing transformer at a primary substation at a cost of nearly $2.5 million.

At the main substation east of the prison.

Hopper says the current transformer is about 50 years old, and they plan to replace it with a larger unit.

From a 56 MVA to an 84 MVA.

Hopper says the substation is jointly operated with NW Electric, and there are two transformers that will be upgraded at the same time.

The order will be placed soon, and the transformers will be delivered and installed in June of 2028.
