Cooler temperatures, the harvest of crops, and hunting season are all contributing factors in drivers seeing more deer near and on the roadways. Sargent Shane Hux from the Missouri Highway Patrol reminds us that when we see a deer, we should slow down and be looking for more.
They move in groups.
Hux says how you react if a deer is on or near the road is also important.
Don’t swerve, as that can result in a more serious crash.
Following a deer strike, you may need a report for insurance. But, even if you don’t need the report, you should still report the crash to law enforcement so the animal can be removed from the roadway.
