Domestic Violence Investigation Leads To Weapons and Drug Charges

An investigation of domestic violence that began earlier this month resulted in the Chillicothe Police Department executing multiple search warrants in Chillicothe on Tuesday.  Police Chief Jon Maples says the investigation was for illegal weapons possession and drug distribution.

Captain Jeremiah Grider talked about the investigation.

A person with a felony record was in possession of several firearms.

The execution of the warrants resulted in the recovery of fourteen firearms, a large quantity of ammunition, illegal controlled substances, and evidence of drug distribution.

As a result, 35-year-old Eric Molina Benitez of Chillicothe was arrested and booked into the Caldwell County Detention Center.  Charges have since been filed that include – three counts of alleged unlawful use of a weapon – possession by a felon – exhibiting – discharge into a home.  He is also charged with alleged domestic assault and delivery of a controlled substance.

Benitez has a previous felony conviction in California which prohibits him from possessing firearms.

He is held with no bond allowed.
