A budget that includes revenue of $11,612,905 and expenses of $13,161,003 was approved by the Livingston County Commission. Presiding Commissioner Ed Douglas says the budget includes a 4% cost of living increase for most hourly employees and a 3% increase to elected officials.
Douglas explained they have some challenges in the coming year.
Sales tax was down, a sewer issue, and the continued rise in jail costs.
In the 2025 budget, the county had planned on an inflationary increase on the sales tax, so they were actually short nearly $174,000 from the budgeted amount.
The sewer issue will also require separating the downspouts from the sewer system.
Douglas says this year they will be relying on some of their reserves.
The county has about 25% of its annual budget in reserve.
With the budget approved, the county will file the appropriate copies with the state.
