Memorial Day Weekend Travel

The Memorial Day Travel period begins today and the Missouri Highway Patrol will be out in force to keep the Missouri Roadways safe and handle emergencies as needed.

Troopers say that with families heading out for summer vacations, major theme parks welcoming visitors, sporting events, Route 66 Centennial traffic, and festivals across the state, these will contribute to heavy road use in Missouri.

MoDOT Director Ed Hassinger says, “Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, and with everything happening in Missouri this year, high travel volumes are expected statewide. Our focus is always on safety – getting people to their destinations and back home safely, while also protecting the workers who keep our transportation system moving.”
