The Gymnasium of the North Daviess R-III School in Jameson collapsed Saturday evening. Superintendent John Rockhold told KCHI that part of the building was unoccupied at the time and there were no injuries. Rockhold gave an estimated timeline of what happened.
Between 8:30 and 8:55 pm the east wall collapsed, and the roof then fell in.
He says a School Board meeting will be held on Monday to determine their next steps.
Our main thing is the safety of students and staff,
and they have not had a structural engineer look at the building.
Rockhold says that at the time of the collapse, there was a teacher in an upstairs classroom, adjacent to the gym. She was not injured and told officials it sounded like someone messing with lockers in the hallway.
Rockhold says there were no signs of problems with the building.
No prior indications of building problems.
Announcements about classes will be made following the school board meeting on Monday.
