Mudcats Lose Their Second Straight Game Against Clarinda On Thursday Evening

The Chillicothe Mudcats lost their game on Thursday evening to the Clarinda A’s from Clarinda, Iowa. A game in which the Mudcats were shorthanded on available players. Only 13 Mudcats made the trip on Thursday evening, and three position players pitched in the ball game.

The Mudcats, like Wednesday’s game, got the scoring started early. Slater Hooke led the game off with a bunt single, and the very next batter, Jevon Raboy laced a triple down the right field line that scored Hooke to make 1-0 Mudcats two batters into the game. Raboy ended up being stranded on third to end the top of the first.

Again, like Wednesday, the Mudcats were done for several innings on the offensive side, and the A’s responded an inning later.

A five run inning for Clarinda in the bottom of the second catapulted the home team out in front on Thursday evening.

Highlighted in the big inning for Clarinda were RBI singles from Sean Bazmore and Theo Anderson, and a two-RBI knock from Cole Baumgart who also scored the fifth and final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Clarinda added another run in the bottom of the third. Gavin Harrington blasted a ball over the left field wall for what would’ve been a two-run homer, however, he did not touch the plate when he rounded the bases. The Mudcats recognized it as it happened, and after Harrington was in the dugout, they threw it home, stepped on the plate, and Harrington was called out. The play was scored as a triple for Gavin Harrington, and Grant Lokken scored on the play after he walked to begin the inning. 6-1 Clarinda after three innings.

In the fourth, Clarinda added another run. Cooper Knight led the inning off with a walk, and scored later in the inning to make it 7-1.

In the fifth, the A’s really opened it up. A seven run inning boosted Clarinda out to a 13 run lead once it was all said and done in the fifth. It was a two-RBI single from Andrew Young, a two-RBI double from Cole Baumgart, an RBI single from Sean Bazmore, and a sacrifice fly from Oscar Yuhas highlighted in the inning in the seven run explosion. 14-1 after five innings.

In the sixth, the Mudcats got a run when Jackson Neilitz scored on a Canon Creason groundout after he doubled off the right field wall to begin the inning. Very similar to what happened in the sixth inning on Wednesday against the Natty’s, 14-2 A’s after the Mudcat top of the sixth.

Clarinda added one final run in the sixth, 15-2 at that point, and the Mudcats went scoreless in the top of the seventh to finish out the ball game on Thursday evening.

The Mudcats lose in run rule fashion for the second straight night by the final score of 15-2.

Chillicothe dips to 2-11 on the season.

The Mudcats return to Shaffer Park on Friday evening to face the Joplin Jailbirds, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
