The Chillicothe Lady Hornets began the Grain Valley Tournament on Monday with a victory over Winnetonka. The Lady Hornets are the defending tournament champions and moved into the semifinal with a 57-17 win.
Chillicothe shared the ball well and played great defense, allowing just one made field goal in the first half. Lyla Beetsma and Liz Oliver were both in double figures scoring by the break as the Lady Hornets opened up a 34-7 lead.
Coach Darren Smith’s team controlled the game from start to finish, advancing with a 57-17 win. Lyla Beetsma scored 17 points, Liz Oliver finished with 16 and Emerson Staton added 12. Chillicothe will play in the semifinal at Grain Valley on Wednesday at 7 PM.
