The Chillicothe Lady Hornets softball team brought home the Class 3 State Championship with a 1-0 victory over Doniphan on Saturday. Pitcher Landry Marsh was out of this world striking out 13 batters and allowing just one hit in the shutout win. The Donettes lone hit was the only time that Doniphan had a baserunner in the game.
Chillicothe scored the winning run in the bottom of the 4th inning. With one out Maicee Albrecht hit a ground ball single up the middle, then with two outs and Albrecht still on first base, sophomore Ashlynn Daugherty stepped up and crushed a ball into left center field back against the wall. Daugherty’s double brought Albrecht around the bases and home for what would be the only scoring in the state title game.
The 2025 Class 3 State Championship is the first in Chillicothe softball program history in their 4th appearance to the final 4 and their 3rd trip under Coach Lee Rucker.
