Chillicothe’s Defense Dismantles Lady Dragons

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets hosted Mid-Buchanan on Thursday. For the second straight night the Lady Hornets smothering defense was on full display.

The Lady Hornets forced Mid-Buchanan into 15 first half turnovers, while Lyla Beetsma opened up the Chillicothe offense, scoring 10 first half points. By halftime the Lady Hornets advantage was 26-8.

The Lady Dragons 2-3 zone defense slowed down Chillicothe early, but sophomore point guard Lexy Smith built up a rhythm as the game went on. After knocking in a pair of threes, she attacked the basket, leading to a season high 16 points. Smith wasn’t just scoring, she added four rebounds and four assists on the night as well which were both tied for the team high.

Defensively, the Lady Hornets never let up, forcing 25 total turnovers, more than points scored by the Lady Dragons on the night. Chillicothe coasted to a 45-22 victory. It is now back to back games where the Lady Hornets have held their opponent to a season low in scoring.

Chillicothe improves to 13-1 on the season and will host Marceline on Wednesday.
