Chillicothe’s Press Helps Hornets Pull Away from Cameron

The Chillicothe Hornets hosted Cameron Tuesday night and the Dragons made life difficult for Chillicothe early. Cameron who was winless in conference play, trailed by just one possession late in the first quarter when Coach Tim Cool called a timeout for Chillicothe. Returning to the floor, the Hornets went to a full court pressure, that picked up the intensity and the tempo favoring Chillicothe. The Hornets held a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, and thanks to another dominant night form Jaishon White extended the margin more by half. White had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the first half alone, which helped Chillicothe to a 28-20 advantage at the break.

In the 2nd half, the Hornets were really able to pull away from Cameron, continuing the up tempo play. Along with White, who finished with 22 points, freshman Turner Jackson and Burke Beetsma both had another solid game scoring in double figures. Chillicothe used a 10-1 run in the third quarter to create some distance against the Dragons, leading 41-27 entering the 4th quarter.

Chillicothe closed out the game well for their sixth consecutive win on the season, defeating conference rival Cameron 56-34. Chillicothe is now 16-8 on the year and 4-1 in the MEC. Chillicothe will have a chance to claim a top 2 finish in conference when the Hornets host Maryville Thursday on Senior Night.
