Hornets Hang On Against Lafayette to Open Districts

The Chillicothe Hornets football team dispatched of Lafayette 19-14 in the first round of the district playoffs on Friday night.

It was a back and forth affair from Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium. Chillicothe struck first with a 61 yard touchdown run from Henry Hurtgen. Lafayette answered back soon after, recovering a fumble, then Irish quarterback Zander Klein threw his first touchdown pass of the day to Maxton Puckett.

Lafayette led 8-7 in the 2nd quarter when Hurtgen added his 2nd touchdown and Chillicothe was ahead at the break 13-8.

Out of halftime Klein connected with Puckett for another score and Lafayette was back ahead by a point. Chillicothe would get the game winning score later in the 3rd quarter, Jaishon White recovered a strip sack fumble and on the ensuing drive caught a 24 yard touchdown pass from Landon Bailey.

Chillicothe’s defense came up with five straight stops to preserve the win 19-14. Chillicothe will on the road against Richmond in the district semifinal Friday night.
