The Chillicothe Hornets boys basketball team entered their road contest at Lathrop on Monday night with a 7-5 record.
The Hornets were coming off three consecutive victories and looked to keep the momentum against the Mules. Chillicothe’s offense was clicking from the start as the Hornets knocked in 20 1st quarter points, but Lathrop hung around trailing just by seven at the end of one. In the second quarter, the Hornets win on a devastating 17-0 run to pull away from Lathrop and take a 40-17 lead into the locker room. The Hornets combination of stout defense, great ball movement and valuing the basketball was the difference in that stretch. Chillicothe as a team had 11 assists to just two turnovers in the first half, which was the highest scoring half for the Hornets this season.
In the second half, Chillicothe’s defense continue to make life difficult for the Mules, as Lathrop had just three second half field goals converted. Jaishon White led the way for Chillicothe in the victory with 13 points while Turner Jackson was also in double figures and Josh Ojeaga had a strong showing off the bench with nine second half points. Chillicothe cruised to victory 63-26.
The Hornets improved to 8-5 on the season and will play again in Lathrop on Wednesday as part of the Bill Burns shootout against University Academy Charter.
