The Chillicothe Hornets played in the 5th place game of the Savannah Tournament on Thursday night against the Platte County Pirates.
Chillicothe played solid throughout, jumping out to an 18-7 lead early in the 2nd quarter, getting production from Turner Jackson who had a game high 18 points and Jaishon White underneath who eclipsed 1000 career points in the game. The Pirates answered to close the Chillicothe lead at 22-18 at the halftime break.
After a back and forth 3rd quarter, Platte County closed the margin to a single point early in the 4th. Then Chillicothe went on a 7-0 run to widen the gap out to 38-30. From there Platte County found a different gear, senior point guard Jayden Martin, who had been contained throughout the game, broke free, scoring all 13 of his team high points in the 2nd half. The Pirates also got a pair of crucial threes from Jacoby Keith as part of a 15-1 run that gave the Pirates a 45-39 lead in the final minute. Platte County took care of business at the free throw line late to hold on for a 49-42 victory.
Chillicothe drops to 1-3 on the season and will have a week off before traveling to Trenton for a road game against the Bulldogs next Friday.
