Hornets Unable to Mount Comeback at Moberly

The Chillicothe Hornets entered their road contest at Moberly 9-6 on the season. The Hornets were facing the athletic and talented 11-6 Spartans.

Moberly started out hot, as Cameron Doubrava scored the first 8 for Moberly who raced out to an 8-2 edge. Chillicothe clawed back, making it 12-10 before Amar’e Hawkins drilled a deep three in the final five seconds of the first quarter for the Spartans.

The Hornets had a sharp start to the 2nd quarter knotting the game up at 15-15. Jaydin Kohl provided a spark off the bench with four first half threes and five total in the game. Moberly responded to push the lead out to 29-21 at the break.

In the 3rd quarter, the Chillicothe offense was unable to get going, scoring just four points in the frame. Moberly extended the lead to 40-25 behind behind double figure scoring from Hawkins, Doubrava and Ethan Land.

In the 4th quarter, Chillicothe whittled the margin down to 8, thanks to a dominant performance from Jaishon White who had a game high 24 points. Moberly prevented Chillicothe from getting any closer, and the Spartans preserved a 60-48 win.

Chillicothe is now 9-7 on the season. The Hornets road game at Camdenton scheduled for Saturday afternoon has been cancelled due to the impeding weather conditions so Chillicothe’s next game is at home Wednesday against Marceline.
