Lady Hornet Netters Bring Home Hardware from Benton Tourney

On Friday, the CHS lady hornets tennis team participated in the annual Benton Tennis Tournament where they captured fifth overall as a team, and every player left with a winning record for the day. The format of the day consisted of three team mini-duals where Chillicothe faced off against Maryville, Cameron, and Trenton. The team fielded five entries — two singles players and three doubles pairs — where each mini-dual consisted of five matches in a Pro8 with Ad format.

In the first head-to-head match of the day, the lady hornets faced the lady spoofhounds, where they were originally up on all five courts. However, Maryville battled back to squeak past Chillicothe winning 3-2 as a team. Then, Chillicothe started firing on all cylinders and beat Cameron 5-0 and finally beat Trenton 4-1. This left the team with a 2-1 record on the day overall and fifth place medals to bring home. Individual results were as follows:

Singles #1 — senior Micah Crowe — beat Maryville 9-7, beat Cameron 8-4, lost to Trenton 1-8

Singles #2 — senior Keonnia Morgan — lost to Maryville 7-9, beat Cameron 8-3, beat Trenton 8-3

Doubles #1 — seniors Bianca Clark & Keeley Shira — beat Maryville 8-4, beat Cameron 8-2, beat Trenton 8-1

Doubles #2 — sophomore Jasmine McLean & junior Summer Gatson — lost to Maryville 5-8, beat Cameron 8-1, beat Trenton 8-3

Doubles #3 — senior Sarah George & junior Rian Mathews — lost to Maryville 4-8, beat Cameron 8-2, beat Trenton 8-2
