The Chillicothe Lady Hornet volleyball team traveled to Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City Saturday for a challenging seven-match tournament, finishing the day with a 3-4 record while advancing to the championship match of their bracket.
Chillicothe opened the day in a tough pool, falling to Rockport 0-2 (19-25, 14-25), Truman 0-2 (18-25, 21-25) and Stover 0-2 (13-25, 16-25).
The Lady Hornets then responded with a strong run through bracket play. Chillicothe swept KIPP KC 2-0 (25-9, 25-13) and Northeast KC 2-0 (25-6, 25-3) before battling Sherwood to a 2-1 victory (25-11, 22-25, 25-18) to advance to the bracket championship.
In the championship match, Chillicothe fell to Center 0-2, 16-25 and 13-25.
Despite the long seven-match day, the Lady Hornets battled throughout the tournament and finished with three straight victories before reaching the bracket championship.
