The Chillicothe Lady Hornet softball team played Saturday in Sedalia with a pair of dominant shutout victories, exacting revenge on Platte County 5-0 after blanking Smith-Cotton 10-0. Chillicothe lost their very first game of the season, on a neutral site to Platte County, and since that game the Lady Hornets had reeled off 17 wins, matching the longest winning streak in program history.
Against Platte County, Chillicothe scored twice in the first inning and added a run in the third before putting the game away with two more runs in the sixth. The Lady Hornets collected nine hits and held Platte County to just one hit.
Landry Marsh delivered another outstanding performance in the circle, throwing all seven innings and allowing just one hit while striking out 11 and walking two. Marsh threw 72 of 106 pitches for strikes.
Ellie Acree, Maicee Rodenberg and Ashlynn Daugherty all collected a pair of hits, while Landry Marsh and Hope Donoho each added a hit and scored a run.
Chillicothe had begun the day in Sedalia with a 10-0 victory over Smith-Cotton in five innings. The Lady Hornets continued to produce offensively while keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard.
Jordan Foster earned the win in the circle, pitching all five innings. Foster allowed just two hits, struck out four and walked one while surrendering no runs.
Chillicothe followed Saturday up with more excellent defense work on the diamond on Monday. The Chillicothe Lady Hornet softball team continued its remarkable season with a 10-0 victory over Princeton, handing the Class 1 No. 1-ranked Tigers their first loss of the season. Princeton entered the game 18-0.
The victory marked the 20th consecutive win for Chillicothe, extending the Lady Hornets’ school-record winning streak.
Landry Marsh was perfect in the circle, throwing a perfect game against Princeton. Marsh retired all 15 batters she faced, striking out 11, while keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard throughout the contest.
Chillicothe also put together a strong offensive performance, with contributions throughout the lineup to produce the 10-run shutout. The Lady Hornets combined timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to build their lead and finish the game early with Kylee Link leading the way connecting on three hits.
The win continues an extraordinary stretch for Chillicothe, the Lady Hornets have now won 20 games in a row and are 20-1 on the season, Midland Empire Conference champs, and defending Class 3 State Champions.
