The Chillicothe Lady Hornets volleyball team was on the road Tuesday night against Carrollton. Both teams started the contest out strong, with high energy. After an early back and forth stretch Coach Beetsma called a timeout with Chillicothe trailing 10-7.
From that points on, the Lady Hornets took over. First Chillicothe made Lyla Beetsma a focal point, with aggressive attacks at the net, Beetsma helped Chillicothe to a 25-18 first set win.
Then in the 2nd set the Lady Hornets started out with an 8-2 lead and never looked back winning comfortably 25-11. The 2nd set featured strong serving from Ava Leamer, a variety of offense and great defense including blocks from Carman Woodworth and Emerson Staton.
Leamer and Staton opened up the 3rd set with an incredible serving run that created a 14-4 Chillicothe advantage. All the while Beetsma was was making outstanding defensive digs and finishing kills offensively with Woodworth setting up the attacks dishing out assists. The Lady Hornets withstood a Carrollton comeback attempt to win 25-17.
Chillicothe earned the straight set victory to improve their record to 9-2. Along with the quartet of seniors, the Lady Hornets also got vital contributions from Mya Oliver, Kami Snyder and Clara Fisher in the win. Chillicothe will be back in action Thursday hosting Bishop Leblond.
