Lady Hornets Fight Back to Win at Holiday Hoops Over South Harrison

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets faced South Harrison on Tuesday night in Trenton at NCMC’s Holiday Hoops. Chillicothe was looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season last out at Centralia.

After a week and a half off, the Lady Hornets started slow, trailing 15-9 at the end of the first quarter. Coach Darren Smith referenced the defense not being good enough in the first half, and South Harrison took advantage, five different Bulldogs knocked down a three before halftime as South Harrison led 26-23 at the midpoint.

The 2nd half went much more to Coach Smith’s liking. Chillicothe made things much tougher on South Harrison, holding the Bulldogs to nine 2nd half points. After taking a three point lead entering the final frame, Lexy Smith had a critical three point play in the 4th quarter to put Chillicothe in control, Ava Leamer stepped up in her best offensive performance of the season, and Lyla Beetsma scored inside to propel Chillicothe to victory behind that trio all tallying double figures.

The Lady Hornets pulled away in the final minute for a 43-35 victory. Chillicothe is now 9-1 on the season and will begin MEC play hosting Bishop LeBlond next Friday.
